Demelza Hays

About the Author

Demelza Hays is a doctorate student in the Department of Economics at the University of Liechtenstein in Europe. Her dissertation research is on the role of cryptocurrency in a balanced investment portfolio. Demelza received a M.A. in economics from the Toulouse School of Economics in 2015 and a BS in economics from the University of South Florida in 2012. She is both a Fulbright scholar and FEE alum.

What inspired you to start writing?

My 7th grade teacher at Stewart Middle School in inner city Tampa. She told me I can keep trying to gain attention by getting in trouble, or I can write some essays, and she would help me find publishers.

What are your hobbies / interests?

Head-to-Tail Carnivore dieting, tennis, reading Hayek

Who are your personal heroes?

My grandmother who had seven children. I want seven children.

How did you discover the freedom philosophy?

My Aunt Molly Sechrest was a friend of Ayn Rand's and was the wife of the late Larry Sechrest, fellow at the Mises Institute.

Who are your favorite writers?

Fiction: Tolstoy, Hesse; Non-Fiction: Hayek, Ron Paul
