With great sadness, we share with friends of FEE the news of the passing this past weekend of Mary Sennholz. A grand lady, as well as a scholar and author in her own right, she was the wife of the late Austrian School economist and Grove City College professor Dr. Hans F. Sennholz. Mary also worked at FEE many years ago and then again when Hans served as FEE president in the 1990s.
My many priceless memories of Mary span 46 years. She was elegant, articulate, forthright and devoted to liberty and to her husband. She hosted many delightful Christmas parties for Economics majors and friends at the family home in Grove City, Pennsylvania. I will have visions in my head for the rest of my life of her playing the piano and singing “O Tannenbaum” and other holiday favorites. What joy she brought to all of us!
Hans’ and Mary’s son Bob has informed me that the funeral will take place in Grove City at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday morning (6/22/17) at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with a viewing the previous evening from 7:00 to 9:00 at Cunningham’s Funeral Home (Grove City). In addition, there will be a memorial service at the Bethesda Evangelical Church in Spring Mills on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m., with the viewing starting at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow the service at the Union Cemetery.
Nearly four years ago, to mark Mary’s 100th birthday, we published this article about her, which we are pleased to share again on this sad occasion.
