Ralph Smeed, long-time friend of FEE and a former trustee, has died at the age of 88. Ralph was an indefatigable promoter of free-market ideas in Idaho and a nonstop booster of FEE beginning in the days of Leonard Read.
The obituary in the Idaho Statesman notes, “He co-founded the Center for the Study of Market Alternatives in Caldwell in the 1970s and spent decades preaching about thinkers including 18th-century Scottish economist Adam Smith and 19th-century French economist Frederic Bastiat.”
FEE president Lawrence Reed’s reminiscence of Ralph is here.
Our condolences to Ralph’s friends and family.
