Rory Margraf | Monday, September 3, 2018“Can you empty your pockets for me?”
“No, sir,” was not the answer. I nodded quickly and reached into my pockets as my heart pounded and my hands trembled, thinking I was in trouble for something I did not do. produced my wallet and a small pack of mints. He inspected them briefly in my cupped hands and then brushed me aside, like a distraction.

Clyde Wayne Crews | Saturday, September 1, 2018Antitrust regulation’s recent rise from the not-quite-dead heralds a serious impediment to free competitive enterprise and entrepreneurship because of the greater damage it can do now in frontier sectors and on a global rather than national scale.

Ilya Shapiro | Monday, August 27, 2018The lower court’s ruling not only failed to appreciate these sensible limitations, it essentially gave the government carte blanche to condition the issuance of licenses—any licenses—on applicants’ agreeing to waive their Fourth Amendment rights. Carried to its logical conclusion, such judicial indulgence would permit the government to condition issuing driver’s licenses on the installation of GPS trackers, or on standing consent to random searches of the owner’s vehicle.

Brittany Hunter | Thursday, June 21, 2018The thought of traveling outside of the United States for health care might sound absurd to many Americans. After all, why on earth would we travel to a developing country for medical treatment when we live in one of the richest countries in the world? The truth is, while American health care costs continue to rise, something quite spectacular is occurring in other parts of the globe: the costs are going down and the quality of care is going up.

John Tamny | Friday, June 15, 2018Which brings us to Google’s business relationship with Huawei. When we remember the quantity of supercomputers being shipped by Huawei, it’s only logical that Google would have a relationship with the Chinese company. To not have one would be self-defeating. At the same time, it doesn’t really matter why Google has dealings with Huawei. As a profit-seeking corporation, it should be able to do as it wishes subject to shareholder approval.
The problem is certain politicians.

Lawrence W. Reed | Monday, June 11, 2018Our Board has formed a search committee and will make an announcement later this summer about the process that will eventually produce an exciting new FEE President. I first became active for liberty a half-century ago with the hope of being a writer. I’ve written a lot over the years but somehow, I’ve also ended up running a lot of things too: the economics department at Northwood University, the Center for Market Alternatives in Idaho, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy in Michigan, and then FEE. So when the day comes that I’m not running an organization and I get to write more, I’ll return to my roots I put in the ground when I published my first article for FEE 41 years ago. I have so many things on my list of “stuff to write about” that I’m excited about the prospect.
