Strengthen U. vs. Coddle U.: Which College Would You Choose?

Are students fragile – or anti-fragile?

Watch this fantastic video from Jonathan Haidt. (Hat tip: John Tomasi.)

Haidt plays the role of college representatives addressing and attempting to recruit a class of high school students. Each university has a different set of ideals and a different view of student psychology.

Strengthen U is dedicated above all else to the pursuit of truth, no matter how uncomfortable. It regards students as anti-fragile. It tries to prepare them for living in a world in which others disagree with them, or might disapprove of them. It arms them with techniques to control themselves, so they can find peace and happiness even in the face of adversity.

Coddle U is dedicated to the idea that no one should ever feel bad, and everyone (except conservatives) should always feel included. It views students as fragile, and arms them with rhetorical weapons to control others.
