San Francisco Decrees Taxi-Fare Increase


It may be remembered as the taxicab fare increase that no one wanted. Cab drivers here oppose it. Taxi riders, already living in one of the nation’s costliest cities, are annoyed over the prospect of paying even more. And Mayor Gavin Newsom, fearing that riders would abandon taxis altogether, called the increase 'a mistake' in his State of the City address last Thursday. (New York Times, Wednesday)
