Richard is the CEO and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Donald Smith & Co., a boutique investment management firm located in New York City. The firm has an extensive track record and manages nearly $3 billion of institutional assets, utilizing a deep value strategy that has been in practice since the 1980s. Richard was recruited by Donald Smith to work at Home Insurance Co where he began his investment career. Later, he joined Donald Smith when Donald Smith & Co. was founded, and worked with him for nearly 4 decades until his passing in 2019. Richard graduated Phi Beta Kappa from SUNY Binghamton with a BA in Psychology, and received an MBA from the Wharton School. Richard is currently a member of the Funding Committee of the Smith Family Foundation Board where he has the opportunity to meet with many of the leading organizations in the free market movement.
