5 Great Economics Books in 2024

We compiled a list of the best free-market economics books from the year.

As we approach the end of 2024, it’s a good time to take a look back and remember some great books on economic topics from the year.

1) The Capitalist Manifesto, by Johan Norberg

This book provides an account of the successes of free-market capitalism, with evidence of how it contributes to improving the welfare of the poorest and helping them achieve their aspirations.

2) The War on Prices, edited by Ryan A. Bourne

This is a fantastic book that combats popular myths surrounding the price system. At a time when calls for price controls of all kinds are popular, Bourne’s book is a popular antidote.

3) The Legacy of Robert Higgs, edited by Christopher J. Coyne

This book gives us a picture of the work of Robert Higgs: an economist and economic historian whose work lays bare the coercive activities of government and the perverse incentives that lead to its expansion.

4) Build, Baby, Build, by Bryan Caplan and Ady Branzei

This is an essential book for understanding why housing prices have risen dramatically in the United States and elsewhere. Housing regulation is to blame and freer markets could alleviate the problem more efficiently than other measures.

5) Progressive Myths, by Michael Huemer

This book combats those myths that progressives hold against the most robust economic and scientific evidence.
