Dr. David T. Beito


Dr. David T. Beito is a true American historian who writes and lectures on the most important topics in U.S. history, including race, tax revolts, and the history of private mutual aid.

Dr. Beito’s articles have appeared in the Journal of Interdisciplinary HistoryJournal of Policy History, and Journal of Urban History, among other scholarly journals. He is currently working on a book together with his wife and partner, Professor Linda Royster Beito, Black Maverick: T.R.M. Howard’s Fight for Civil Rights and Economic Power.

He writes frequently on current controversies related to academic freedom and academic standards, including the speech code issue, the Academic Bill of Rights, grade inflation. 

A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Dr. Beito received a B.A. in history from the University of Minnesota in 1980 and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin. He is an associate professor of history at the University of Alabama and one of the key contributors to the History News Network weblog Liberty and Power.

He and his wife, Linda, live in Northport, Alabama.
