Armed with a BSc. Degree in Electrical Engineering Cum Laude from Queen's University, Canada, Dr. Nicholson pioneered many quant models with IBM, Weyerhaeuser and MacKay-Shields Financial before
he formed York Management & Research Inc in 1978, an independent investment advisor to institutions such as Harvard University and high net worth families.
Shortly thereafter, he launched several other companies in the computer and investment services fields including 3 quant-driven hedge funds. Their success from 1981 – 2000 facilitated Dr. Nicholson’s
retirement such that he closed his hedge funds in 2000 to focus on philanthropy & giving back. York Management continues to this day as a private family office serving only the Nicholson family interests.
The 501(c)(3) philanthropic vehicle created and deployed was the Stiles-Nicholson Foundation which was initiated in honor of the military sacrifices of his father and stepfather. For over 30 years, the Stiles-Nicholson Foundation has supported many education initiatives in the areas of free enterprise, financial literacy, STEM and education outcomes.
