Brian P. Simpson is a professor and chair of the Department of Finance and Economics in the School of Business and Management at National University in La Jolla, CA. His research focuses on monetary and banking theory, the business cycle, and the philosophical foundations of economic ideas. He is author of the two-volume comprehensive exposition and defense of Austrian business cycle theory titled Money, Banking, and the Business Cycle (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014). He is also author of the book Markets Don’t Fail! (Lexington Books, 2005). Markets Don’t Fail! was translated into Chinese in 2012.
In addition, he was a visiting scholar at the Social Philosophy & Policy Center at Bowling Green State University in the fall of 2008 and at the Clemson Institute for the Study of Capitalism at Clemson University in the spring of 2012. He has developed a minor in economics with a focus on free-market economics and the philosophical foundations of economic ideas. He has a Ph.D. in economics from George Mason University, an MBA from Pepperdine University, and a BS in aerospace engineering from Syracuse University.
