The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) is delighted to announce that the winner of the 2019 Leonard E. Read Distinguished Alumni Award is Dr. Edwin J. Feulner.
Dr. Feulner is best known for being the founder and longtime President of the Heritage Foundation, serving in that position from 1977 to 2013, and again briefly in 2017. Dr. Feulner has also served on Heritage’s Board of Directors since its founding in 1973. In these roles, Dr. Feulner revolutionized free-market public policy development and advancement in Washington, D.C. and nationwide.
The Leonard E. Read Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to one alumna or alumnus for outstanding contributions to the causes of liberty and economic education.
Congratulations to Dr. Fuelner on receiving the 2019 Leonard E. Read Distinguished Alumni Award.
Dr. Feulner attended a FEE seminar in the summer of 1963 while in his first year of his MBA program at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
In addition to being a leading figure for free-market public policy, Dr. Feulner has served as a longtime officer and director of two grant-making associations—the Sarah Scaife Foundation and the Thomas A. Roe Foundation—as well as a former President and a longtime Treasurer of the Mont Pelerin Society.
Dr. Feulner is a member of the Advisory Board of the Public Diplomacy Collaborative at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government. He has written nine books, and continues to speak worldwide on the subject of liberty.
Recipients of the Leonard E. Read Distinguished Alumni Award—named after FEE co-founder Leonard Read, author of the classic essay “I, Pencil”—receive dinner at FEEcon, a plaque, and a $2,000 cash prize.
Congratulations to Dr. Fuelner on receiving the 2019 Leonard E. Read Distinguished Alumni Award.
