Who should apply for the Clemson seminar?
Clemson is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 26 who is interested in diving deeper into the moral foundations of capitalism. All we ask is that you are respectful, intellectually curious, and willing to engage in the presentations and discussions.
How advanced is Clemson?
The program is designed to help you take the next step in your intellectual journey about free-market economics. We will talk about big ideas, and our goal is for you to leave with more confidence to debunk capitalism myths and prepared to take on the world.
How much do the seminars cost?
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, seminar tuition is $79. The cost is all inclusive and covers materials, lodging, and meals for the entirety of your stay on campus.
Shuttles are provided to and from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport if you are traveling by air. These shuttles are cost-free for students. Other than the shuttles provided to and from the airport, you are responsible for travel to and from the seminar.
What scholarships are available?
Tuition reimbursement scholarships are available and awarded on a rolling basis until seminar applications close April 15th. Qualifying applicants will be reimbursed the full tuition fee after attending the seminar.
Please note that students awarded tuition reimbursement scholarships are required to complete their online, pre-seminar course before the seminar in order to receive reimbursement.
Through a partnership with the Richard Seth Staley Educational Foundation, we are also able to offer a limited number of travel reimbursement scholarships, which are awarded on a rolling basis. Qualifying applicants will be reimbursed up to $500 in travel expenses after attending the seminar and submitting valid receipts.
Limited international scholarships are also available. For international students that are awarded a travel reimbursement scholarship, we will reimburse air travel up to $750.
Qualifying expenses include airline tickets or mileage reimbursement of 58 cents per mile if driving a personal vehicle (IRS mileage reimbursement standard). These scholarships are also paid at the conclusion of the seminar. Rental cars, gas purchases, checked bags (air travel), bus and train tickets are not applicable travel costs.
You can apply for scholarships at the same time you apply to the seminar.
Can international students register/apply?
Yes. International students are welcome to apply and attend. Please note that you are responsible for your own travel and for completing any necessary paperwork required by your country for a visa.
How are scholarships reimbursed?
Tuition reimbursement scholarships are distributed in the form of a refund onto the card used to pay the tuition fee. You should expect these refunds within 3-5 business days following the seminar. You will receive an email confirmation of the refund once it has been processed.
Travel reimbursement scholarships may be distributed in two ways following the seminar:
You may be provided reimbursement through Paypal. These reimbursements will be processed within 3-10 business days following the conclusion of the seminar. Students who request this method of reimbursement must have a valid Paypal account.
You may request to have your reimbursements distributed as a personally-addressed check, mailed via USPS. These reimbursements will be processed within 11-20 business days following the conclusion of the seminar.
How do I get a visa after I am accepted?
If you need a Visa to enter the United States, contact the US Embassy or Consulate in your country and find out what options are available to you and what their requirements are. Be sure to do this as soon as possible as it may take a few weeks or months to complete the process.
If you need a letter from FEE, please complete this form.
I applied. When will I hear if I am accepted?
Students are accepted on a rolling basis; however, we receive many applications, so it may take a few weeks for us to get back to you. You will hear back by the middle of April at the latest.
When is the registration/application deadline?
For Clemson, applications close on March 31, 2019.
How do I get to the seminar?
Instructions will be emailed on when and how to arrive on campus.
What should I pack?
The dress code for seminars is casual. Please be aware that we will be taking photos during the seminar that may be used for marketing purposes. You should wear attire you would feel comfortable being photographed in.
Also, you should bring all toiletries and personal items you would need for any overnight trip. Basic linens, a light blanket, pillow, and towel will be provided. We also recommend that you bring a notebook and pen to take notes during the talks and a water bottle to stay hydrated during your trip.
What dining options are available?
You will be dining on campus for all meals. On-campus dining will be “cafeteria style,” common to college campuses, with a buffet of options that meet the requirements of most diets.
Will there be exercise facilities available?
Indoor exercise facilities are not provided during the seminar. Students are welcome to run or workout during free time, but keep in mind that the seminar schedule is very full, and students are expected to attend all talks and activities.
Am I required to attend all of the presentations and discussion groups?
Yes. In order for you to receive the full seminar experience we ask that you participate in all talks and activities.
Will there be any pre-reading assignments?
Yes, you will receive reading materials and an online, pre-seminar course via email to prepare for the reading discussion groups. Please note that students awarded tuition reimbursement scholarships are required to complete their online, pre-seminar course before the program in order to receive reimbursement.
Can I receive classroom credit from my participation at the program?
It depends on your college or university.
Check with your Dean’s office to find out if your college or university offers an independent study option. If so, you may be able to design an independent study that includes your attendance at a FEE Summer Seminar.
All seminar participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the seminar stating the number of lecture hours that you received at the seminar. You will also receive some pre-seminar readings, and we can work with you to find additional readings if you need them. Please contact us if you would like to receive a reading list in advance, or if you need a more robust reading list.
I confirmed my attendance but need to cancel. How do I do that?
