FEE is pleased to announce the appointment of Wayne Olson to the position of Executive Director. Olson will provide FEE with strategic and business leadership, with a focus on growth, while working closely with FEE President Lawrence W. Reed, who is responsible for FEE’s intellectual leadership and external relations generally. Carl Oberg, now as Chief Operating Officer, will continue to be responsible for the execution of all of FEE’s programs.
“Wayne Olson possesses every skill and trait we need to enable our management team to take FEE to the next level. This is great news for FEE and for the cause of liberty,” said Reed.
Added Oberg, “Our already impressive growth trajectory is about to take a new leap with Wayne on board.”
This addition to FEE’s management team comes at a time of rapid expansion for FEE, and it will enable FEE to accelerate that upward trend. Under Larry and Carl’s leadership, FEE has re-focused its mission to become the premier pathway by which the next generation of leaders will become inspired by the freedom philosophy and introduced to the community of liberty-minded people. Following the transformation of all of FEE’s traditional programs to serve this purpose, their popularity has dramatically increased, new programs have been introduced and FEE’s contribution revenues have grown at over 20% in each of the past two years.
Serving 16-24 year old high school and college students, FEE addresses the needs of those intellectually curious students who are relatively new to the ideas of freedom and free-market economics. Through a combination of targeted web outreach, online education and culture-building in-person seminars, FEE produces successful and driven alumni who view their careers, politics, and policy through an economic lens, whether they work in policy, academia, business or the professions. Since its inception in 1946, FEE has laid the foundation for the cause of freedom and has more than 10,000 alumni throughout the nation and the world.
Olson is 26-year veteran of the financial services sector, spending 18 years at Credit Suisse and its predecessor firm, The First Boston Corporation, in various executive roles. He brings significant management experience on both revenue-generating and support functions. Throughout his career, his primary focus has been new product development and marketing, which will be a top priority at FEE.
Wayne’s connection to FEE began during his time in UCLA’s Anderson School of Management, when he found The Freeman a welcome antidote to the orthodox models being taught in the academy. For the past eight years—the last five as chairman—he has been a FEE trustee and had a central role in charting FEE’s new strategic direction.
